Complimentary limited-scope audit

Craig Tate is the commercial energy efficiency manager for Holy Cross Energy. In his 19 years of work at Holy Cross, he has conducted more than 500 commercial energy audits and about 5,000 residential energy audits. Tate is also certified by the Building Performance Institute. He will provide a limited energy audit, using an infrared camera if appropriate, for any commercial-scale customer of Holy Cross Energy.

The audit takes about 90 minutes, and should be attended by the building’s operations manager or custodian as well as the building owner or decision-maker. The audit is generally focused on three aspects of electrical usage.

  • Building envelope: walls, ceiling, windows, floor and basement (tied to cooling load and furnace fan or pump load)
  • Building mechanical system: heating, water heating, small appliances, lighting and refrigeration
  • Building controls: thermostat, switches, sensors and timers

After the audit, Tate will send out a written audit report of his findings.

Holy Cross 20 percent commercial efficiency grant

Commercial and industrial consumers may apply for a grant to fund an energy audit and/or efficiency measures based on the following formula.

Previous 12 months billing total x 20% = grant amount, capped at $10,000

Grant spending can be spread out over more than one year. Commercial and industrial customers may reapply for the remaining balance of the grant if they identify additional efficiency measures, provided that the $10,000 cap has not been exceeded.

Holy Cross Energy customers can apply the 20 percent grant to pay for:

Engineering-grade energy audit rebate

The grant can be used to pay for 50 percent of the cost of an engineering-grade energy audit and energy use evaluation. The customer must cover the remaining 50 percent of the audit cost, and must also agree to spend at least an equal amount on labor, equipment and/or materials to implement energy saving measures identified by the energy audit within 12 months.

Energy efficiency upgrades rebate

The grant can be used to pay for up to 50 percent of the cost for labor, equipment or materials to install energy efficiency measures that will reduce electrical consumption as identified by an energy audit, the customer's staff or by Holy Cross staff.

Lighting caveat: The grant can be used to upgrade lighting systems, but does not apply to efficient light bulbs.
