Holy Cross Energy releases Request for Proposals
for up to 1 megawatt of solar PV power
Second RFP for 10 mW expected later this summer
Holy Cross Energy (HCE) has issued a Request for Proposals for purchase of up to 1 megawatt (MW) of solar photovoltaic energy generation, to be located within its service territory.
The deadline to provide proposals for long-term power purchase agreements is Sept. 30, 2010. Installation should be completed by the end of 2012.
More info about the RFP is available online.
HCE will be releasing an additional RFP later this summer (for purchase of renewable energy) for up to 10 MW of generation of any type that qualifies under Colorado’s Renewable Energy Standard and is located in HCE’s service territory.
HCE, formed in 1939, is a not-for-profit, member-owned electric cooperative utility providing electricity, energy products, and services to more than 54,000 consumer meters in Eagle, Garfield and Pitkin counties and portions of Gunnison and Mesa counties.
HCE’s Board of Directors has adopted a voluntary goal of supplying 20% of the electricity used by its consumers from renewable sources by 2015.

Clean energy financing
Voters in Eagle, Pitkin and Gunnison counties have approved Energy Smart Loan programs.
The program will allow residential and commercial property owners to borrow money from the county's Energy Smart Loan Fund, and use the money to make energy efficiency upgrades and/or install renewable energy systems on their property.
Repayment of the loan would be done over 15 years as an add-on to the property owner's property tax bill.
The 15-year payback means energy savings from most upgrades would more than cover the repayment costs. In addition, the repayment obligation stays with the property, even if it changes hands.
The ballot questions gave the counties authority to issue bonds to finance the loan program.
Pitkin County: $7 million
Eagle County: $10 million
Gunnison County: $3 million
