Heating is the largest energy expense in most homes, accounting for 35 to 50 percent of annual energy bills in high-elevation areas such as Garfield County.
Reducing your heating energy use is the single most effective way to save money and make significant cuts in your home’s energy use.
Cooling your home can drive up your summer electric bills, particularly if you use central air conditioning. Evaporative cooling systems (swamp coolers) use 75 percent less energy, and are quite effective in our dry climate.
