As an Xcel Energy electricity customer using all-electric heat, you are eligible for rebates on a variety of home weatherization measures offered through Xcel’s new program, the Home Performance Rebate with Energy Star. This is a terrific package program that will deliver savings on your energy bills and a more comfortable home.
Start the program by getting a discount-priced home energy audit. Click here for information. With the audit in hand, you can plan to make the efficiency upgrades your home needs. Some things you can do yourself. Other things you’ll want to hire a professional installer. The good news is that Xcel Energy offers a variety of rebates for these energy conservation measures, giving you a faster payback on your efficiency investments.
20 percent of the total cost of insulation and air sealing upgrades, up to $300
Xcel’s Home Performance program requires three basic measures that almost every home needs, and then offers a list of 10 optional measures, from which you can choose at least two.
Required measures and rebate amounts:
- Air sealing and weatherstripping $150
- Attic insulation and bypass sealing $350
- High efficiency lighting $40 (double rebate does not apply)
Optional measures (choose at least two) and rebate amounts:
- Wall insulation (above grade) $650
- Energy Star setback thermostat $15
- High efficiency furnace, 0.92 AFUE $120
- High efficiency furnace, 0.94 AFUE $160
- Electrically efficient furnace * $130
- High efficiency boiler, 0.84 AFUE $120
- Tankless hot water heater, 0.82 AFUE $50
- Power vented hot water heater $100
- Energy Star clothes washer $50
- Energy Star refrigerator $15
- Energy Star dishwasher $15
* A natural gas electrically efficient furnace typically has an electrical commuted motor (ECM) fan and more precise controls, reducing the electrical energy consumption. If your furnace qualifies, this rebate is in addition to one of the other optional furnace rebates.
Expert help to complete your improvements
If you need help making or completing your project plan, request an energy efficiency expert from Xcel's Colorado-based auditors, Lightly Treading, Inc. Their staff is available to answer your questions and help you make decisions about which improvements are best for your home and the types of contractors you’ll need. They’ll even review bids.
