But What Will It Cost?

Habitat for Humanity HomeBuilding industry and real estate professionals interested in energy efficiency are invited to attend the fifth free training session that will explain what it takes to become an ENERGY STAR builder.

Newcomers to the training series are welcome.

Using the real-world example of the recently completed Habitat for Humanity home in Rifle, a panel of key players in the project will discuss:

  • The energy efficiency improvements incorporated into the Habitat home that resulted in an outstanding Home Energy Rating System index score of 40
  • The added costs needed to achieve ENERGY STAR qualification, and the incentives available to offset some of these costs
  • Changes to the ENERGY STAR program coming in 2011
  • The City of Rifle’s proposed ENERGY STAR building program (this is an opportunity for public comment)

The panelists are Fritz Diether and Dan Becker of Frostbusters & Coolth, an energy analysis and weatherization firm, Rifle ENERGY STAR builder Sally Brands, and City of Rifle Planner Nathan Lindquist.

The series is co-sponsored by the Governor’s Energy Office, City of Rifle, Garfield County, Mountain to Mesa Homebuilders Association, Habitat for Humanity, Clean Energy Collective, Clean Energy Economy for the Region and the Garfield New Energy Communities Initiative.

ENERGY STAR Homebuilder Rebate

The Governor’s Energy Office offers a $300 per home rebate to all Colorado homebuilders who construct a certified ENERGY STAR new home outside territory covered by utility ENERGY STAR programs.
