Facility Energy Workshop Report

Restaurants & Hot Springs Pool share their energy success stories
About 20 restaurant operators and facility managers from Garfield and Pitkin counties gathered February 3rd in Carbondale for a half-day workshop to compare experiences on saving energy in their buildings.
Juicy Lucy's Steakhouse: David and CeCe Zumwinkle
David and CeCe recently renovated and expanded their restaurant in Glenwood Springs. Along the way they incorporated better windows, better insulation, an air-lock front door configuration, energy efficient hoods in the kitchen, and "Coolerado" indirect-evaporative coolers to beat the heat in the summer.
Bump's Restaurant, Buttermilk: Matt Hamilton
Aspen Skiing Company worked to upgrade Bumps to reduce energy use, but the benefits went far beyond energy savings and dollar savings. A few straightforward upgrades and repairs throughout the building are saving money while helping to keep food warmer and improve staff comfort and guest satisfaction, plus windy snowstorms no longer create maintenance difficulties with HVAC equipment on the roof.
Glenwood Hot Springs Pool: Gary Bosco
The Hot Springs Pool recently underwent an energy assessment with SGM, resulting in a number of recommendations to reduce energy use and operational costs at the Pool. Gary Bosco will outline what his team learned from the process and what they'll be working to address first.
